Tolerance to morphine-like drugs (opioids)

PMRI scientists, led by Prof Mac Christie and Dr Peregrine Osborne, are making significant progress in understanding why morphine-like drugs (opioids) become less effective with repeated use over a period of months (tolerance). Opioids are also relatively ineffective for nerve damage pain. Thus increased understanding of how opioids act and develop tolerance is vital in improving current options for pain relief.
