Clinical service
The Pain Management & Research Centre (PMRC) is a purposed designed clinical facility on the 9th floor of Royal North Shore Hospital which was constructed with funds donated by the general and business community and designated as a separate area to the main hospital; this means that both insured and non-insured patients are assessed and treated in the Centre. The activities of the Centre include a large clinical service for acute, subacute, chronic and cancer pain (46,000 episodes of patient care per annum), a post graduate education program, and a clinical and basic research program with an emphasis on neuropathic pain. The Centres clinical research also includes a pain epidemiology unit.
